Tickets selling fast for Bridport music festival

WITH less than a month to go the Jurassic Fields Music Festival 2014 is catching the imagination of the public with tickets selling fast for the event to be held at Asker Meadows, Bridport on Saturday July 12th.

The first of its kind in West Dorset, the daylong ‘not for profit’ event runs from 10am until 11pm and offers a day of music, comedy and fun for all the family.
The music will be held over two stages with a main stage and one smaller acoustic one, and will complement each other to allow a continuous flow of music throughout the day. The acts will consist of mainly local bands with a more mainstream known band Dodgy, headlining on the main stage to close the festival.

Dodgy, an English power pop rock trio that rose to prominence during the Britpop era of the 1990s who are best known for their hits “Staying Out for the Summer”, “If You’re Thinking of Me”, and “Good Enough”.

Local Weymouth band The Leggomen are headlining the acoustic stage. This very popular trio have developed a large set list with a blend of modern pop & rock as well as older classic songs.

Also performing are a mix of local talent as well as up and coming bands from around the South West including The Rising who recently supported The Feeling and Razorlight at Plymouth’s Volkfest Event.

Other bands playing include : Jonathan Cotton, The Transitions, Vanilla Radio, The Mutter Slater Band, Funky Munks, Elijah Wolf, Sam Rich, Daisy Wardle, Peter James Milson, Mr B the Gentlemen Rhymer, Shelby’s Elbows, Peter Crawford and Logan Carter.
To find out more about the bands playing as well as links to their music you can follow the link on the festival webpage: http://jurassicfields.com/band-biographies

Nine comedians headed by Joel Dommett will be making the day go with a laugh on the Comedy stage.

Dommett has had a hugely exciting career since starting stand up comedy in 2007.
He was the face of MTV in 2012 and presented their daily news bulletins, and has also worked on the live new Channel 4 after show, Live in Chelsea, How to Survive a Disaster Movie (Channel 5) and the hugely successful Impractical Jokers (BBC3).
Joel is one of the fastest rising stars on the UK comedy circuit having gained rave reviews for his debut solo Edinburgh show, Neon Hero, in 2011 and second show ‘Nunchuck Silver Medallist 2002‘ in 2012.

He has since performed stand up on Russell Howard’s Good News on BBC Three and has numerous acting credits to his name, including Popatron on BBC Two and Skins on E4.
As well as the bands and comedy there is also a kids funfair, children’s entertainment and free face painting as well as a number of food and clothing stalls.

Recently arranged is the increasingly popular Body Zorbing that is sure to be a bit of fun for adults and children alike.

The organisers have been running various fundraising events in the run up to the festival including a race night and duck race which has raised over £2000 towards the cost of the event.

The festival is aimed at being a community event with all profits being reinvested. Eighty per cent of any profit generated will be used to make next year’s occasion bigger and better, whilst 10 per cent will be donated to local music projects in and around West Dorset, with the rest going to a local charity or club chosen by the festival committee from all applications.

To get your tickets before they all sell out you can visit Bridport, Sherborne, Dorchester or Lyme Regis Ticket Office or you can also call the ticket hotline on 01308 424901. Tickets are also available to be purchased online via the website at http://www.jurassicfields.com/tickets

We are pleased to announce as one of our main sponsors for this years festival local business, Greig & Allen (Bridport) Ltd.

Owned and run by Hugh and Liss Matthews, Greig & Allen provide MOTs, servicing and repair for all vehicle makes and models and along with sister company, G&A Commercials, offer a whole range of garage services to keep local residents and businesses on the move.

A member of Bridport Round Table, Hugh is also involved with many local events including the Beer Festival, the Fireworks Display and the West Bay Wallow. He said, “Liss and I love living and working here and it’s events like these that really bring the community together and make Bridport such an amazing place to live. A Music Festival is a fantastic addition to the Bridport social calendar and we are delighted to lend our support”.

We wondered which of the up-coming bands performing Hugh was particularly looking forward to, and he confessed “I enjoy all kinds of music, but due to the overwhelming amount of poor feedback I get when singing in the workshop it’s probably best if I stick to giving out hot tips on vehicle maintenance rather than on spotting the next Coldplay”. When asked if he had any motoring advice for the festival goers, he replied “Sure, leave the car at home and come down and have some fun!”

Greig & Allen are on the Dreadnought Trading Estate in Bridport so for friendly motoring advice call in, phone 01308 424600 or visit http://www.greigandallen.co.uk
